Oahu is the third largest island in the Hawaiian chain, encompassing 597 square miles. This is, by far Hawaii’s most populous island, with more than 983,429 people, according to census estimates for 2013.
Visiting Hawaii is a dream vacation for most of us but very often people think they cannot afford themselves a vacation like this. This article will prove you were wrong the whole time. Of course you could book a room in a 5 star hotel for $500 a night, but that is not something I had in mind. I found 6 beautiful and cheap hostels for under $40 a night which is pretty amazing deal. Each hostel offers the quality facilities to their guests, free WiFi and some of them even offer a free continental breakfast. Not to forget the friendly atmosphere that will make you fall in love with this kind of accommodation.
Hokondo Waikiki Beachside Hostel, from $39
Hokondo is located in the Heart of Waikiki and it is the largest locally owned and operated hostel in Hawaii since 2001 with over 150 beds. They offer clean, spacious rooms that include separate seating area with desk, full kitchens, private lanai balconies, signature memory foam beds, complimentary daily breakfast and free Wi-Fi.

The beach waikiki boutique hostel is located 1/2 block away from Waikiki Beach. It is very close to many shops, restaurants, surf spots, parks etc. All rooms in this lovely hostel have air conditioning, private bathrooms, microwave, refrigerator, small kitchen and more. They also offer free continental breakfast and Wifi/Internet. They also organize free BBQ nights and free pizza nights at the roof lounge!
HI – Waikiki Hostel, from $28
HI-Honolulu-Waikiki Hostel is situated two blocks from Waikiki Beach and one block from main bus lines. Dorm rooms are apartment style with two rooms in each dorm and no more than seven people sharing an en-suite bathroom. It is a clean, safe and friendly hostel with more than affordable rates. They offer fee WiFi, tea/coffee, communal kitchen and daily excursions.
Seaside Hawaiian Hostel Waikiki, from $22.86
Seaside Hawaiian hostel is the only family run hostel in Waikiki. It is located in the middle of Waikiki, steps away from beaches, restaurants, shopping and clubs. The owners are very proud of their Banyan Courtyard that promotes a unique and friendly atmosphere. They offer free WiFi, BBQ, common room and kitchen.
HI – Honolulu Hostel, from $22
HI-Honolulu hostel is situated in a quiet and safe residential area 2 minutes away from the University of Hawaii in the Manoa Valley. There is a hiking trail to the beautiful Manoa Falls nearby. The hostel has dormitory style accommodation with shared bathrooms and showers. Facilities include a fully equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi and Internet access. There is also TV and lounge area.
